Ki Society and Ki Aikido(4)

Ki Society Australia was founded by Michael Williams Sensei in Brisbane and Brisbane was the stronghold for the Ki Society in Australia. Since Williams Sensei's resignation the Ki Society became somewhat fractured with a number of groups forming. The following dojo are run by instructors holding qualifications from the Ki Society though may not be currently affiliated with Ki Society, Japan.

A list of internationally affiliated dojo is maintained by the Ki Society here.

I have documented the history of Ki Aikido in Australia here.

O'SenseiBased at the Caboolture PCYC, Setsudo dojo is headed by Tony Deckers Sensei.

Rich in local history, it was originally named Shizukana dojo.  It opened in Caboolture PCYC 1989 and then Wamuran by Patrick Pollini Sensei and in about July 1995 was passed to Tony Deckers, who spent some time out of the state but returned relatively recently and reopened the dojo.

This where  Spring Hill dojo ended up. Headed by John Hurley Sensei and based in South Brisbane Sailing Club, Orleigh Park, West End, it is currently a registered Ki Society dojo and (I think) directly affiliated with Japan. I did my shodan at Spring Hill in its heyday. When based at Coorparoo temporily I spent some time at this dojo when it was run by Steve Dows Sensei - some of the weapons racks I made may still be there ;)

Headed by Michael Stoopman Sensei(formerly of Griffith University Aikido Club), one of the most senior graded practitioners from the Ki Society and highly regarded for his understanding of ki, it is unclear whether the affiliation is currently active. The dojo is a part of the AAKS (Australian Aikido Ki Society) group.

Dojo location Yeronga Scout Hall, Corner of Park Road and Villa Street, Yeronga.
