Brisbane Guide

Brisbane is Australia's newest world city. No longer the country town bypassed by tourists todays its a destination in its own.

For the foodies try the multicultural west end, brisbane restaurants along the river and Southbank for casual dinning or head down to the valley for the alternative scene, chinatown and nearby New Farm and of course in the centre of town too. Want authentic brisbane cuisine you can't go past the breakfast creek hotel for brilliant steaks or fisherman's wharf on the other side of the creek for fabulous seafood. Suburban dining is is great to at Bulimba, Paddington and scattered all over the place, ask a local. Into culture we have a fabulous museum, performance arts centre and gallery of modern art, or try the powerhouse out at New Farm.

With a semi tropical environment there is plenty to do for the more active, my personal favourite is rock climbing at Kangaroo point day or night (its floodlight), there are electric BBQ's down the bottom and some out people that will get you started with that or a canoe along the river. head around to Southbank afterwards for a swim at the artificial beach to cool off.

Within an hours drive of Brisbane are plenty of outdoor activities for the young and young at heart. Just south of Brisbane is the scenic rim (formed by the crater of an old volcano with Mt. Waring as the plug). Visit O'Reillys, Binna Burra, Mt. Tambourine and Springbrook for a taste of the mountains and tropical rainforest. fear not plenty of crafts and beaut coffee places for the less active. Head north for the Glass house mountains and Malaney is a favourite mountain retreat with plenty of shopping and artsy stuff.

If the beach is more your thing you can head to Moreton bay via cleveland, victoria point for protected waters for fishing and even kite surfing. The beaches are calm and good for the littlies. But if its famous beaches then your a stones throw from the Gold Coast or the Sunshine coast and can still be back n tome for dinner.

Getting around Brisbane we have a developing public transport system that stars out from the city centre (but going side ays can be tricky). The rail network isn't great but the busways are really good. You can get a train to and from the airport.

Mostly this website is devoted to the various martial arts clubs around brisbane and in particular aikido so please look around.

As far as travel guides there are a few for brisbane, but mostly they are business directories. You might instead enjoy the Lonely Planet guide to Brisbane
